Public Weekly Outreach Events

The Elbow Lake Environmental Education Centre’s Outreach and Stewardship Interns host a different exciting, educational program every Thursday! These events are free and all are welcome! 

This is a free program offered by the Queen’s University Biological Station. We are always happy to accept donations to support environmental education initiatives and enhance our education and outreach programs. Visit here to donate. https://www.givetoqueens.ca/QUBSEvents

Want to stay overnight in one of our cabins? For $80/night for camp families ($90 for members of the public), you can choose to stay overnight in one of our cabins after the Family Night programming. Add this option when registering for camp. Public participants can register here.

 

2026 Family Night Themes!

July 16 – Wild Watercolours – Try your hand at watercolour painting, using the natural beauty of Elbow Lake as inspiration!

July 23 – Map Quest – Learn the basics of using a map and compass and use these tools to navigate around the Elbow Lake property to find hidden clues!

July 30 – Sensing Survival – Discover some amazing animal senses that help them survive in the wild. Come ready to try out some of these amazing abilities through a series of experiments and active games.

August 6 – Marsh Monsters – Grab a dip net and a water sample from our wetland to discover some of the amazing creatures that live in this ecosystem. We’ll take our samples back to our aquatics lab to examine our finds under the microscope!

August 13 – Busy Beavers – Beavers are key ecosystem engineers at Elbow Lake… but how much do you really know about these amazing animals? Be ready to test out your dam-building skills in a beaver-inspired design challenge!

August 20 – Build a Birdhouse – Work with your family to build and paint a birdhouse of your very own to take home!

August 27 – A Night Under the Stars – Back by popular demand! Join us for a night of stargazing at Elbow Lake, with a guided tour of the night sky using a telescope! Learn about the solar system and space, as well as the impacts of light pollution and atmospheric changes.
